You know, I built this site thinking I’d have something to say but when you get down to it, my life is pretty dull and uneventful. Well, unless you count the stress of trying to get a business going, the main printer going down, all the vehicles down, bills due, and life in general.
But who’s counting?
Still I pay for this, minuscule though the cost is, so I should put something here.
I think I’ll talk about my truck that I’m currently getting running once more.
The water pump went out on it some time ago and I purchased the part but never quite got around to putting it in even though we really do need the truck fairly often. I ascribe this to my autistic tendencies and, honestly, the fear of not being able to do the job due to my stenosis and lack of strength.
Well, the new pump is in place, things have gone pretty smoothly to this point, so I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak. I used some old mechanics tricks to get it into place and lined up (amazingly I remembered them). I used to work on this model of engine back when I was a diesel mechanic. There was a heck of a lot more room on a box truck I can tell you!
All that’s left is to get the A/C and power steering mounts back in place (the A/C is a royal pain in the rump) The pulley installed, belts on, fill it with coolant and see if it leaks, then put the fan and shroud back in. Easy right?
Oh did I mention both batteries are dead and run 120 a piece? Story of my life! There’s still some warranty left and I’ve got another battery that I need to return, plus the rental for the tools will come back to me so hopefully that will add up to a doable situation or else the truck isn’t going anywhere
For the interested it’s a 1986 Ford F-250 with a 6.9L International IDI diesel motor. Solid engine with various quirks. A lot of torque and a decent amount of horsepower by the standards of its day. Mine’s got an aftermarket turbo on it so it puts out a bit more than stock.
Still not going to win any races in it. It’ll haul a trailer full of horses right up a hill with no problem though. If I had a trailer full of horses to haul, that is.
Off to work on it here in a bit once my neck relaxes some.
